Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Whois app (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use it on your iPhone or iPad. We designed Whois to do its job — looking up public domain records — with as little data collection as possible.

1. Information you enter

When you perform a lookup, the domain name you type (or the domain of a page you share to the App) is sent over the internet to public WHOIS servers — starting with IANA and following referrals to the relevant registry or registrar — in order to retrieve the public registration record. These servers are operated by third parties and are not controlled by us. We do not require an account and do not ask for your name, email, or other personal details.

2. Lookup history

The domains you look up are stored locally on your device so the App can show them as suggestions. This history never leaves your device through the App, and you can erase it at any time from Settings → History → Clear History. Removing the App also deletes it.

3. Analytics & crash reporting

The App uses Google Firebase to understand usage and improve stability:

This data is processed by Google as our service provider. See Google’s Firebase privacy information. We do not use this data to identify you personally, and we do not sell it.

4. What we do not do

5. Data retention

Lookup history lives on your device until you clear it or delete the App. Analytics and crash data are retained by Google according to your Firebase configuration and Google’s retention policies.

6. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

7. International transfers

WHOIS queries and Firebase data may be processed on servers located outside your country, including in the United States.

8. Your choices

You can clear your local history in the App at any time. You can limit ad/diagnostic sharing system-wide in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security, and you can stop all data collection by deleting the App.

9. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
